Reason why

The purpose of TUnIS Navigation Roadheader is to support precise excavation of the tunnel profile and to avoid over or under cut.

For efficient use of the roadheader, the visibility of the cutterhead is crucial for accurate face cutting. Dust and lingering shotcrete often impede this and marking the excavation area on the face is time-consuming and risky for the surveyors.

The TUnIS Navigation Roadheader improves Roadheader performance and tunnel safety. A total station mounted on the tunnel wall consistently measures two prisms on the Roadheader and a backsight prism located 50-100 meters away. The data transmitted to the operator in real-time provides him with precise visual and numeric information about the machine and cutterhead positions.

The TUnIS navigation software includes a 3D calculation function for on-machine comparison between the excavated tunnel area and the design tunnel profile after completion.

Benefits

  • Precise cutting
    Even with poor visibility.
  • Faster profiling, less rework, less mucking
A smooth flat tunnel profile, saving time and money at the same time due to design-compliant excavation and reduced shotcrete consumption.
  • Optimal machine operation
Continuous comparison of the actual profile and the design profile supports optimised machine operation (in 2D and 3D).
  • Safer working conditions
for personnel underground thanks to automated processes.
  • Prompt intervention
Continuous monitoring ‒ both from the construction office and directly on the machine ‒ makes troubleshooting quicker and easier.
