Reason why

The purpose of TUnIS Navigation is to improve the accuracy of excavation in conventional tunnel construction and to increase occupational safety.

In conventional tunnel construction, workers have to operate directly at the tunnel face, which puts them at risk. In addition, the machine operator often does not receive continuous information about the current excavation progress. This can lead to rework, higher shotcrete consumption and increased costs. TUnIS Navigation Excavator addresses these challenges through automated position tracking and real-time visual feedback, allowing precise profiling and safer working conditions for everyone underground.

TUnIS Navigation Excavator combines total station, prism tracking and gyroscope technology to continuously determine and update the excavator position inside the tunnel. The data is transmitted via radio to the TUnIS computer. The system can be easily adapted to different excavators and extended with TUnIS Office for data analysis, configuration and monitoring from the construction office.

Benefits

  • Precise cutting
Accurate excavation even with poor visibility.
  • Faster profiling, less rework, less mucking
A smooth flat tunnel profile as a result of a time and money saving process: excavation as designed, reduced shotcrete consumption.
  • Optimal machine operation
Continuous comparison of the actual profile and the design profile supports optimised machine operation in 2D and 3D.
  • Safer working conditions
Automated processes minimise manual work at the tunnel face, enhancing safety for personnel underground.
  • Prompt intervention
Continuous monitoring – both from the construction office and directly on the machine – enables quick troubleshooting.
