A safe, long-lasting tunnel structure requires maximum precision in tunnelling. Deviations from the planned route cost time and money. This is why double shield TBMs as the most technically demanding tunnel boring machines in particular need a most reliable and approved navigation system.

TUnIS Navigation Double Shield permanently determines and calculates all necessary data and information for navigating the TBM along the tunnel axis. To generate the data, a laser target is mounted in the gripper shield of the TBM along with a measuring camera which is aligned to a set of marker plates in the front shield.

A comparison of the rolling between the front and gripper plates is available as additional information. Further, it provides a complete documentation of the shield run in a database.
