Reason why

The purpose of MultiStation is to replace the necessary regular manual traverse measurements by an automated system.

Microtunnelling navigation systems have to be calibrated at regular intervals. The manual traverse measurement from the launch shaft through the pipeline to the machine typically requires the use of specialised surveying experts and a shutdown of the tunnelling system lasting several hours. An automated system streamlines control measurements, saving valuable project time.

MultiStation consists of a chain of total stations installed in the pipeline with a defined spacing. Starting from a fixed station in the launch shaft, the system measures an automated traverse with the end point as a reference point installed on the tunnelling machine. This approach allows for control measurements at shorter intervals, significantly boosting tunnel alignment precision.

Benefits

  • Reduction of downtimes to a few minutes
Downtimes of several hours are no longer necessary, as is the case with manual control surveys.
  • Automation means cost reduction
Automating control measurements eliminates the necessity of having a surveyor present on-site, thereby lowering the cost associated with surveying expert services.
  • Higher frequency, more flexibility, better quality
Frequent control surveys minimise deviations, reducing the need for corrective adjustments. This positively impacts jacking forces, pipe loads, and overall pipeline quality.
  • Assured quality even for small diameter pipe jacking
Enabling control measurements for small diameters (down to DN 1200), the system supports even long-distance and curved drives to be excavated with high accuracy.
