The commissioning of the last two tunnel boring machines of the Brenner Base Tunnel was celebrated on 18.09.24. Since then, Wilma and Olga manufactured by Herrenknecht have been working their way north in the western and eastern main tunnels, each about 7.5 kilometres long, guided by VMT equipment.
We wish the two ‘ladies’ a successful and precise journey and are proud to have contributed to the overall project with proven and innovative solutions:
- TUnIS Navigation Gripper System: Ensuring precision tunnelling by continuously tracking the position of the TBM and guiding it through the complex Alpine geology.
- TUnIS Navigation Double Shield System: Used on five Double Shield TBMs, this system calculates all necessary data for precise navigation.
- TUnIS Ring Sequencing: Assists the TBM operator in calculating the ideal ring sequence in advance.
- TUnIS.moving station: A breakthrough in TBM positioning, this system allows the total station to move with the TBM, eliminating the need for repeated setup.
- Shift.ON: Our real-time shift management solution supplied as part of the Herrenknecht.Connected Data Management System simplifies the collection and analysis of operational data.
Lights, camera, action!
Our project engineer André Silva will be soon on site again. We plan to take the opportunity to accompany him with the camera to give everyone an impression of what the work of a VMT project engineer looks like.
