From office to onsite: Microtunnelling momentum at VMT in H1 2025

From water to energy: VMT’s microtunnelling team has been on the move – supporting over 10 projects across Europe and beyond in the first half of the year.

The first half of 2025 has seen a remarkable surge in microtunnelling activity at VMT. More than ten projects were successfully commissioned and supervised by our team in just six months, spanning eight countries and covering a wide range of applications:

  • wastewater and drinking water supply
  • district heating and gas pipelines
  • power infrastructure
  • and irrigation systems for agriculture

What’s driving this boom? The answer lies beneath the surface. Urbanisation, ageing infrastructure and climate change are accelerating the demand for innovative trenchless technologies – particularly for small-diameter projects where space is limited and precision is critical. These modern infrastructure projects require adaptable, reliable solutions that combine compact design with maximum flexibility.

At VMT, our navigation and assistance systems for microtunnelling are built to meet these demands. Developed on a standardised platform and adaptable to a wide range of machines, they provide dependable guidance even in the most challenging environments – including tight curves, long drives and non-accessible alignments.

While our offices may have felt a little empty over the past months, our calendars certainly weren’t. From Ireland to Croatia, our microtunnelling team was out in the field, supporting our customers and keeping their projects on track. We are proud to be part of so many essential infrastructure projects – and even prouder of the commitment and teamwork that made them a success.

Here’s to a strong second half of 2025 and to all the partners who share our passion for precision underground!
